Earlier, the BBC reported with reference to its sources that Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, received a secret payment of $400,000 or $600,000 "to fix talks between the Ukrainian president and President Trump" in June 2017.
In June, prosecutors for now-former state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman charged Freidman - a native of Russian Federation who allegedly boasted repeatedly of assets exceeding $130 million - with failing to pay the state $5 million between 2012 and 2015.
Freidman, a Russian immigrant who managed a taxi business with Cohen, was banned last year from working in the industry and was later disbarred after he was charged with four counts of criminal tax fraud and grand larceny, with a maximum prison sentence each of 25 years. Freidman reached the agreement with NY state prosecutors.
On Tuesday, Freidman agreed to pay restitution and judgments totaling $5 million to NY state. And so the government chose to let Freidman plead guilty to a single count of evading $50,000 in taxes.
Michael Cohen distanced himself from former business partner Gene Friedman following the latter's cooperation with government prosecutors, Talking Points Memo reported. The plea agreement is not of record.
But asked if he was cooperating with the authorities, Mr. Freidman would not respond. Special counsel Robert Mueller's office has reportedly investigated "a Russia-friendly peace proposal for Ukraine that was delivered to Cohen by a Ukrainian lawmaker one week after Trump took office", the Washington Post reported.

He told TyC Sports: "It would be awful , because of everything he means to Barcelona ". But the 26-year-old striker has sought to play down the talk of another move.
A person briefed on his plea agreement said it requires him to cooperate with any ongoing investigation.
The President's lawyers are already resigned to the strong possibility that the inquiry into Mr Cohen's businesses could lead him to cooperate with federal prosecutors.
The Ukrainian MP was later put in touch with Cohen after using personal contacts at a Jewish charity in NY.
CNN previously reported the Federal Bureau of Investigation searches included a request for documents related to Cohen's ownership of taxi medallions and sought information about taxi owners who had financial dealings with Cohen.
"It is shameful", he wrote the New York Daily News in a text.
"I greatly understand that and appreciate it", Michael Cohen's business partner replied. Agents searched his home and office, as well as his hotel room, for documents last month, acting in part on a referral from Mueller's office.
"He's just not involved in the taxis", said one of his lawyers, Mr Rudy Giuliani. And that's why I've said repeatedly that I think ultimately he's going to flip on the president of the United States.
