Israeli embassy in NZ declares Israel's rights to protect its borders

To observe solidarity with the Palestinians, who are targeted by the Israeli soldiers at the Gaza Strip, Pakistan is set to observe Palestine Solidarity Day on Friday, according to a statement by Pakistan's Prime Minister Office (PMO).

A total of 60 Palestinians were killed and more than 2,400 injured during the clashes with Israeli Defense Forces as the so-called Great March of Return turned violent following the US Embassy's move to Jerusalem on May 14.

Senior Palestinian official Hanan Ashrawi said Palestinians were looking at past United Nations operations in various countries to see what form a protection effort might take.

The UNSC draft said, "The Security Council expresses its outrage and sorrow at the killing of Palestinian civilians exercising their right to peaceful protest", adding, "The Security Council calls for an independent and transparent investigation into these actions to ensure accountability". Zeid said he supported the call for an investigation "that is global, independent and impartial, in the hope the truth regarding these matters will lead to justice".

They thanked countries and organizations that rejected the U.S. embassy move, condemning others for taking part in Monday's inauguration ceremony.

The foreign secretary also met the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu during the Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting.

In addition to the Arab countries, China, France, Brazil, Sweden, and Switzerland were among the 51 countries who supported the special session.

It brings together Palestinian, Israeli and worldwide experts, as well as representatives of the diplomatic community and civil society, to discuss how a lasting settlement can be brought about.

The statement released by the Israeli embassy today said Israel had been acting in self-defence in compliance with global law against an internationally recognised terror organisation, Hamas.

Members of Students for Justice in Palestine held a protest at an event celebrating Israeli history Thursday, claiming it did not acknowledge Palestinians as indigenous to the region.
