Rooney returned to Everton last summer after a trophy-filled 13 years at Manchester United and initially did well, scoring seven Premier League goals by November. Despite that fee, the Post says that "talks between Rooney's representatives and the MLS side have accelerated in recent weeks".
There are senior members of Everton's hierarchy who would like Rooney to stay - including chairman Bill Kenwright, who stated as much during an address at the club's season awards last week. A day later and The Daily Mail claim the striker has informed Everton of his desire to leave Goodison Park for America, with a move seemingly drawing closer. "Yes", said Allardyce. "There are rumours about Wayne going overseas - in China and America - but at the moment he is an Everton player and an Everton fan".
Rooney will be given a contract until the end of the 2020 MLS season worth £300,000 a week, but the Sun reports that Everton will have to subsidise the move by contributing £50,000 to the pot.
Although Rooney has a year left on his current Everton deal, his starts are being rationed by boss Sam Allardyce, with the former England skipper keen to play more. When Wayne Rooney comes off it's all: 'Why did he come off?'
