In the first two games against the Cleveland Indians, the New York Yankees blew a five-run lead and went hitless into the fifth inning.

Yankees 4, Indians 1.

NY is 14-1 in its last 15 games after opening the series with a 7-6 win Friday and following it up with a 5-2 victory Saturday afternoon.

Gleyber Torres got NY on the board first with his first career home run - a three-run shot to left center field.

The Yankees won Saturday by taking advantage of mistakes.

"He was giving me some pointers on how to face hitters, " German said. They've gone 14-1 in their last 15 games with the benefit of an off-day to rest. "I don't think it's just us".

"And no matter the score, no matter the pitcher, no matter the situation, they kind of continue to press on".

After winning their ninth consecutive home game, next up is a Yankee Stadium showdown with the rival Red Sox for first place in the AL East. That obviously leaves no margin for error and it cost the Yankees. Edwin Encarnacion hit a groundball to first baseman Neil Walker, who elected to get the out at first and allowed Ramirez to score to make it a 4-2 ballgame. Ramirez is slashing.291/.379/.575 with nine home runs, 21 RBIs and 21 runs scored, while Lindor (.284/.353/.518) is up to eight homers, 19 RBIs, 25 runs and five stolen bases.

In the other dugout, Cleveland's pitching staff allowed 4.4 runs per game and its starters own a 3.56 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 8.27 K/9.

Jazz's Mitchell: Decision to dunk happened midair
The rookie finished with 17 points on 5-of-21 shooting, marking the first time he failed to reach 20 points in this postseason. So they made adjustments, especially on the pick and roll. "I thought Dante's dunk was better than mine", Mitchell said.

"Both games have been lost because of me", Lindor said. Defense is doing a great job. "I cost my team two games". "I put myself in hot water and made a pitch to get out of it and we didn't make a play".

Bauer entered the fifth inning Saturday with a 1-0 lead and a flawless game. Austin Romine doubles to deep right center field. "He hit that wall pretty hard". "I think he's OK".

Among those waiting for Sonny Gray to deliver an effective start, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone might be his most vocal advocate.

Mike Clevinger is getting the nod for the visiting Indians. He has won eight of his last nine decisions dating to August 21. He has a 3.77 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP.

Domingo German will make his sixth appearance and first start of the season, eying his first win.

Before the Yankees imploded, CC Sabathia allowed a season-low three hits in six innings.

Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge also hit home runs that helped stake Sabathia to a 5-0 lead. He received a no-decision. Montgomery's diagnosis was made after he underwent an MRI on Wednesday after experiencing the discomfort in the first inning Tuesday.

Cleveland is hoping Josh Tomlin (0-4, 9.16 ERA) can turn around his season by picking up his first win, as he was better on the road a year ago.

"He's pitched very well for us", Boone said of German, who has a 3.77 ERA in 14 ¹/₃ innings over five outings. But, no. I don't get caught up in the least. "We feel like he's more than capable of stepping in there in a starting role".
