The set followed a rather R-rated introduction by radio personality Howard Stern, who bemoaned how long it took for the band that sold more than 130 million albums to be inducted.
Dire Straits went into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame without its leader.
Their ten-ish minutes of stage time were then followed by ... nothing.
Alabama Shake's Brittany Howard paid tribute to Sister Rosetta Tharpe with a powerful performance of "That's All" and "Strange Things Happening Every Day".

The group then played "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band, ' 'Wildest Dreams, ' 'Nights in White Satin" and 'Ride My See Saw.' The ceremony will be aired in the United States by HBO on 5 May.
Simone, who died in 2003, was welcomed into the Rock corridor at a radical way from performers who has deeply motivated, from Lauryn Hill and Andra Day into Mary J. Blige.
Jon Bon Jovi will be inducted alongside current bandmates David Bryan and Tico Torres, as well as former members Richie Sambora and Alec John Such. Howard Stern presided over the presentation for the ceremony.
