The weather agency is calling for snow heavy at times mixed with ice pellets for Saturday.

This weekend's winter-like weather could shape up to "be an historic storm if the current forecast pans out", according to the National Weather Service. The 2 inches of water that falls over middle portions of lower MI will be some mixture of ice pellets or freezing rain, which could cause icy roads and extended power outages. Colder air will begin to move into central Minnesota Friday afternoon and evening, changing the precipitation to snow across central and western Minnesota. That standing water can quickly freeze once surface temps drop below freezing, causing a skating rink on some roads.

The freezing line will be located in far northern Lower Friday evening. Ice accumulations of one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch are possible.

Expect the storm to keep pushing across the area on Sunday, with still a variety of precipitation types possible, depending on our temperature evolution. Strong winds are also expected.&&$$.
