Malcolm Butler To Sign With Titans For Five Years, $61 Million


Butler is not coming off a career year, but he's played well in recent seasons despite often following top opposing receivers.

An overlooked prospect in 2014 out of Division II West Alabama, he was invited to New England for a tryout and earned a contract on the offseason 90-man roster nearly a month after the draft.

Butler is expected to sign with the Titans when free agency begins. The Titans will be hoping that Butler can return to his 2015 and 2016 form in Nashville.

Lewis led the Pats with 896 rushing yards on 180 carries (5.0 average) and six touchdowns in the 2017 regular season.

Lewis' receiving strengths with be a ideal complement to incumbent Derrick Henry, who has a punishing running style.

The Titans apparently had a plan when they released veteran running back DeMarco Murray last Thursday. He barely played that season, playing sparingly in 11 games, but come Super Bowl XLIX, everything changed. Butler broke into the league in 2014 as an undrafted free agent out of Division II West Alabama. slowly earning Bill Belichick's trust before stepping up to intercept Russell Wilson late in the fourth quarter of a 28-24 Super Bowl win.

After the game, Butler told ESPN's Mike Reiss and Schefter that the Patriots "gave up" on him.

While there is a lot of stability on the Patriots roster from 2017 to 2018, the few big names that could depart are impact players.

Butler's move to Tennessee will reunite him with former Patriots cornerback Logan Ryan, general manager Jon Robinson and first-year head coach Mike Vrabel.
