Seahawks are sending DE Michael Bennett to the Super Bowl champion Eagles

Seahawks acquired WR Marcus Johnson and a 2018 fifth-round pick from the Eagles in exchange for DL Michael Bennett and a 2018 seventh-round pick. The Eagles will also receive a seventh-round selection in the deal, which can not become official until the new league year opens March 14 at 4 p.m.

Bennett, 32, played the last five seasons in Seattle, where he emerged as one of football's best all-around defensive ends. Cutting him would save the Patriots $6 million against the cap.

There will ultimately be salary cap ramifications that Roseman will need to address by trading cheap rookie contracts for veterans on high priced deals, and the first domino to fall following Wednesday's trade could be dealing Vinny Curry, re-working his contract, or releasing him.

While talks have heated up as of late over the possibility of Bennett being on the trade market, a move involving the Eagles didn't even seem to be part of the discussion, but it turns out the defensive end will be joining the champions for the 2018 season.

Seattle, who won the Super Bowl in 2013, were expected to move on from Bennett before March 18 when he was due a $3million roster bonus. "I can see them going younger, with younger players", Bennett told The News Tribune Dec. 31.

The Eagles' new third-down pass rush will have Bennett and Fletcher Cox on the inside, with Derek Barnett and Brandon Graham on the outside.

Bennett is also one of the NFL's most notably outspoken players and will join one of the NFL's strongest locker rooms.

A call to a source close to Bennett seeking confirmation went unanswered Wednesday morning.

For his career, Bennett has 54 sacks, 210 tackles and eight forced fumbles in 293 games. He ends his five-year stint with 40 sacks in 75 games with Seattle.
