Officer Shot to Death in Clinton is Identified


The 30-year-old had been with the department, then returned to the force after a shooting last year killed Clinton police officer Gary Michael.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reported late Tuesday night that oone officer died, the other two were being treated for injuries.

Said Sgt. Bill Lowe of the Missouri Highway Patrol: "It goes without saying that these officers put themselves in jeopardy on a daily basis".

Multiple law enforcement agencies in northeast Kansas are expressing their condolences after a 30-year-old Missouri officer was shot and killed in the line of duty.

Ryan Gaydos is an editor for Fox News. He was recognized by the Kansas City Royals in a 2014 video for his service. He then worked as a reserve officer until September 24, 2017, when he returned to the force full time.

The shooting comes seven months after Clinton Officer Gary Michael was shot dead during a traffic stop in August.

Cassie Toliver, who lives near where the shooting took place, said police vehicles, sirens and lights quickly filled the streets and barricaded it from both sides.

Collin Stosberg says the officers went to the home in Clinton on Tuesday night in response to a 911 call in which a disturbance could be heard. The other officer's injuries were minor, the patrol said.

Morton "served with distinction for the citizens of Clinton" as a full-time police officer, the state patrol tweeted. "He was just one of those kind of guys", Oberkrom said.

Morton is the second Clinton police officer in the past year to be killed in the line of duty.

"Our hearts ache for our brothers in blue at the CPD", the Clinton Fire Department said in a statement.

"It's just another tragic event for this community and especially this police department. They're going to endure more", Sgt. Lowe said. When Morton and two other officers responded to the call, they were met with gunfire at the residence.
