Neymar discharged from hospital after successful foot surgery

Brazilian footballer Neymar underwent a successful operation on his injured foot and ankle on Saturday.

During the first portion of his recovery and rehabilitation, Neymar will be accompanied by PSG physical therapist Rafael Martini.

The world's most expensive player was operated on by the Brazil national team doctor in Belo Horizonte to fix the fractured metatarsal and sprained ankle he suffered in last weekend's French league match against Olympique Marseille.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward fractured his fifth metatarsal during his side's 3-0 defeat of Marseille in Ligue 1 on February 25 and is expected to miss the next three months.

Neymar may not be able to influence PSG's results on the pitch, but Henrique is adamant the 26-year-old will be able to play a pivotal role from the stands while he recovers.

The Saturday operation repaired a cracked fifth metatarsal in his right foot.

"Re-education will begin immediately under the direction of a club physiotherapist".

According to doctors, Neymar will be evaluated in six weeks to determine a possible date by which he will return to training activities, but the length of his recovery of course depends on how well he weathers the post-surgery period.

"Neymar is sad, but understands he has no alternative now. In six weeks, we will make a new evaluation", said Brazil national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, who performed the operation. "He will devote himself to being well as soon as possible".

Neymar is ruled out of Tuesday's Champions League last-16 second leg against Real Madrid and now faces a battle to regains sharpness ahead of the World Cup.
