Service returning to BB&T after overnight outage


Customers can still use their debit, credit and prepaid cards, according to the bank's website.

Officials say at this time, automated Phone24 service and ATMs are now available, but some account information has not yet been fully updated from yesterday.

BB&T is restoring some of the services it lost after what it calls an equipment malfunction.

BB&T announced shortly before 1 p.m. Friday that it was making progress on restoring many banking services that had been down since Thursday.

BB&T is the latest bank to be hit by a widespread outages to ATMs and digital platforms due to technical problems. "You claim to "hear" our frustrations yet you don't address that which we are frustrated about".

The company said if anyone has incurred fees "directly related to this outage", the bank will waive or reimburse them. Thank you so much for your continued patience.

BB&T cited "an equipment malfunction in one our data centers" as the cause of the outage. The first notice of the outage was sent out Thursday afternoon.

Officials with BB&T said "the issue has been identified and they're working to resolve it as soon as possible".
