Minnesota Vikings deny Giants of Kevin Stefanski interview

The Vikings denied the Giants' request to interview QBs coach Kevin Stefanski for their offensive coordinator vacancy. There had been plenty of hope from Shurmur that he could bring Stefanski over with him to the Giants as the two share a strong working relationship but that scenario hasn't been denied from even getting a chance to happen.

Shurmur does have most of his staff together with the Giants. But there was clear chemistry between Shurmur and Stefanski past year in Minnesota. But that doesn't change the fact that NY needs to get their offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach positions filled quickly.

This is a double whammy for Stefanski considering the Vikings hired John DeFilippo as their offensive coordinator over him. DeFilippo, though, is an up-and-comer in the industry who interviewed for the Bears head coaching opening last month and might have talked to the Colts about their opening had the Vikings not locked him up first. One thing is certain: Things can't get any worse than they were during the Ben McAdoo era. If the Giants are able to hire Staley, a former running back, they likely would have to hire a separate quarterbacks coach. With guidance from DeFilippo, offensive coordinator Frank Reich and head coach Doug Pederson, Foles found a rhythm in the playoffs after an initially rocky takeover for the injured Carson Wentz. Stefanski's title was assistant to the head coach through the 2008 season and this meant taking care of a variety of jobs. But according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, the Minnesota Vikings have denied NY the opportunity to interview quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski.

Bevell of course is infamous for throwing the ball on the goal line to lose Super Bowl XLIX, but he also guided the Seahawks' offense to a top-10 ranking in four of his seven seasons in Seattle with the help of dynamic QB Russell Wilson and RB Marshawn Lynch. "I'm a team player", DeFilippo said on a conference call with reporters. The Eagles may also want to promote Staley to offensive coordinator following Reich's departure.
