What to watch in mixed doubles round robin finale

The win, coupled with a 7-2 Canada win earlier Saturday over Switzerland, has Lawes and Morris alone in first place with a 5-1 round-robin record heading into the final round-robin draw on Sunday.

The Hamilton siblings rallied to a 10-3 win against Norway in mixed doubles curling Saturday evening, but earlier defeats mean the US won't have a shot at reaching the semifinals.

Canada had a 6-2 lead after five ends and Switzerland's rock rolled out of the house on its final throw, giving Morris and Lawes the steal.

The U.S. team plays Norway later Saturday (5:05 a.m. Madison time).

Finland remains winless in round robin play, while China sits at 3-3. Anastasia Bryzgalova and Aleksandr Krushelnitskiy used a methodical approach with single points in four of the five ends they scored, including one in the decisive extra end. Switzerland is guaranteed at least a spot in the tiebreaker, and automatically makes the semifinals with a win.

Despite the loss, the Russians also qualified for the semifinals.

"After the game, 2014 gold medallist Lawes and 2010 gold victor Morris said they would skip the opening ceremonies, as it wouldn't leave enough time prior to their next game".

"That game was phenomenal", Canada mixed doubles coach Jeff Stoughton wrote in his blog after the match. Instead, they said, they'd be watching it on TV with everyone else. That's all you can ask for.

"I'm really proud of us for being able to go two days with back-to-back wins and to be able to have our sights set on the playoffs is a really good feeling, but we're still focusing on the present and going to try and keep learning what the ice is doing", Lawes said. They were in complete control the rest of the way as Lawes shot 86 percent, while Morris was even better at 90 percent.
