Wintry mix expected early Wednesday morning

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for portions of north central and northeast IL, in effect from noon to midnight Tuesday, when three to six more inches of snow are expected to fall.

As of Monday night, however, weather models indicated that the Parkland will most likely receive some light snow with little to no freezing rain or sleet expected to fall.

The National Weather Service in Charleston reported rain and snow showers were likely Sunday night before 3 a.m. with an estimated nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Southeast wind around 5 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

It's finally time to wax the cross-country skis, dust off the snowshoes and fire up the snowmobiles because a series of weather systems heading this way has the potential to thicken the blanket of new snow covering southern Wisconsin.
