Fiji Airways Fijian 7s reps (from left) Eroni Sau, Paula Dranisinukula, Apenisa Cakaubalavu, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Josua Vakurinabili, captain Seremaia Tuwai, Mesulame Kunavula, Alosio Naduva, Vatemo Ravouvou and Amenoni Nasilasila celebrate their win on February 4, 2018 at the Hamilton 7s.

The Kiwis crossed twice before McConnochie got his second score of the game and in a match which ebbed and flowed before a Scott Curry try eventually secured the win for the hosts. It then lost to Australia 33-12 in the quarter finals but then beat Scotland 33-19 for fight place semi finals.

They lost Sevuloni Mocenacagi for the final two matches after he was suspended for two games for a risky tackle, but still had just enough firepower to beat New Zealand 14-12 in the semi-finals.

It was a solid day for Clark Laidlaw's troops.

"It's been a tough two weeks for us as a programme losing out in the quarter-final stages - we aspire to be better than that", said Head of England Sevens Simon Amor.

"We've got to go back to Fiji and work hard, develop our game even more, but obviously not lose what we're good at and that's what we saw tonight". There are some big lessons to take away and learn from these two tournaments which will give us great motivation moving forward. This is, however, an improvement from the first two legs of the HSBC World Seven Series.

Today is the second and final day of the event.

Fomai struck once again and To Losefo added a third try for the match both converted, giving the Samoans a healthy 19-0 lead.

Meanwhile Papua New Guinea showed strong improvement from Sydney, thrashing France 35-0 0 before being outgunned 42-12 against the United States to finish a credible 11th.

In a thrilling final on Sunday, Fiji came back from 17-5 down at halftime to engineer a dramatic turnaround and win the Hamilton Sevens title 19-17 against the Blitzboks at the Waikato Stadium.
