At least three shops, two private buses and a auto were torched here yesterday, after a young boy was killed in clashes following stone-pelting by a mob on a motorcycle rally taken out to celebrate the Republic Day.

Uttar Pradesh Police, meanwhile, claimed that the situation was now again turning normal.

Earlier in the day, one person died and two were injured after a clash broke out between two communities during "Tiranga Yatra". This led to clashes between the two groups that finally resulted in the stone pelting.

"All internet services have been suspended from 5 pm on January 27 to 10 pm on January 28, " RP Singh, Kasganj District Magistrate, said.

The administration also organised a meeting of the district peace committee this morning to restore normalcy. Another FIR was filed by the deceased Chandan Gupta's father Sunil Gupta against 20 men, three of them named, for murder, rioting, breach of peace, sedition and other serious charges.

According to ANI, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been constituted by the UP Police to probe the incident and nab the remaining culprits suspected to be involved in the violence. "Till now, the police has arrested nine men", said the police statement. Police said that over two dozen trouble makers from both communities have been detained and prohibitory orders under section 144 have been issued.

Though the curfew-bound town remained tense, the situation was largely in control.

Additional police forces, including Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) are kept on stand-by as a precautionary measure.

There were reports of firing as well and sources told Firstpost that three people are critically injured, while one person was dead. Shops at Ghantaghar were burnt down and private buses parked on Nadrai Gate were set on fire.

The unruly crowd also set afire a kiosk near a petrol pump and a waste dump. "The district administration has been able to control the situation so far, but additional forces will be called to ensure that the situation does not worsen", he said.

BJP MP Rajveer Singh who attended Gupta's cremation persuaded the victim's family to cremate the body.

"Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is himself monitoring the developments and stringent punishment will be meted out to the guilty, no matter how big the person is or how strong his political connections are", Sharma said.
