Athletic departments are supposed to be there to help the student-athlete become successful in life and to protect and guide them through hard times.

The survivors say they'll stay united in their efforts to bring more accountability and transparency to the university. They are all incredible people, wonderful Spartans.

Nassar, a 54-year-old former member of Michigan State's sports medicine staff, has admitted penetrating elite gymnasts and other athletes with his fingers while he was supposedly treating them for injuries.

Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis has stepped down in the wake of the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal.

In addition to his sentence for pleading guilty to 10 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with children under the age of 16, Nassar was previously sentenced to 60 years in prison on child pornography charges. Almost 160 of his victims testified during a seven-day trial.

Investigations by the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights have found the university at fault for a "sexually hostile environment" and "failure to address complaints of sexual harassment, including sexual violence, in a prompt and equitable manner caused and may have contributed to a continuation of this sexually hostile environment", according to ESPN. Wayne State University Press and the Charles H.
