While there are still a few things you can only do on a dedicated computer, mobile phones have gotten to the point where we can do most of our daily tasks on them.
Project Linda is basically the shell of the Blade Stealth, so it's very lightweight and thin, although it is about half an inch thicker than the Blade Stealth. This way you'll be able to use a mouse with your phone, which actually worked quite well in our demo, and would probably help you get ahead in all your competitive mobile games. "The phone's Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform and 8 GB of RAM deliver responsive performance, instantly transforming Project Linda into an Android laptop", reads a press release from Razer.
Cleverly, when docked, the Razer Phone works as the laptop's touchpad as it slides into the front of the keyboard. Power isn't a issue so much any more; rather, it's a question of making the software work correctly, and ensuring a consistent experience across a phone and a laptop.
"The Razer Phone brings an incredible Netflix viewing experience to the smartphone", says Anthony Park, vice president of engineering at Netflix.
From there, you can use the phone screen as a touchpad, or as a second screen (and sometimes both at the same time). Once plugged in, the phone's display transfers to the laptop's 4K 120 Mhz touchscreen display, with the smaller screen acting as either a touchpad or a secondary display.
Netflix bringing HDR10 and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 support to Razer Phone
We're accustomed to Razer's annual fun, brash CES prototypes turn into vaporware, and sometimes what the company shows us are barely functioning prototypes. In Razer's case, there's supposed to be 200GB of internal storage, as well as a 3.5mm audio jack, USB-A port, USB-C port (which is occupied by the power adapter plug in), a 720p webcam, and dual-array microphone. The integration makes the Razer Phone the first smartphone to support Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 for Netflix.
The triple-headed snake trademark of Razer is one of the most recognized logos in the global gaming and esports communities.
What do you think of Razer's Project Linda laptop/phone hybrid?
Existing Razer Phone users will also benefit from the Netflix and Razer partnership with an over-the-air update later this month.
