Lotto fever: Combined Powerball, Mega Millions prizes surpass $1 billion

No one won the Powerball jackpot on Wednesday worth an estimated $460 million, the seventh-largest prize in the game's history, the lottery website said.

No one has hit the jackpot since October 25.

It would be the 10th largest jackpot in US lottery history if it's captured by a single winning ticket. They chose the cash option of $119,492,684.81 and received a check for $83,644,879 after federal and state taxes were deduced.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in more than 302 million.

Two tickets matched the five numbers in Tuesday night's drawing.

No one has hit the Powerball jackpot since October 25, when a player in Louisiana won a $191 million jackpot, the game said. The next drawing for the Powerball will be on Saturday, Jan. 6 for a jackpot of more than $550 million.

It's not the only big lottery prize at stake.

There's another jackpot to vie for Friday night: the Mega Millions and its $418 million prize.

Powerball is played in 44 US states, as well as Washington DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
