Raiders fire Jack Del Rio as coach; Jon Gruden mentioned as replacement

"I hope I'm a candidate", regarding where things stand between him and the Raiders.

To cap the same year in which he received a four-year extension, Raiders coach Jack Del Rio is out of a job. After stints in college at San Diego, a year with the Saints and a four-year stint with USC, Morton returned to the National Football League as the Wide Receivers coach for Jim Harbaugh's 49ers teams.

It sounds like Jon Gruden is really coming back to coaching this time and it will happen with a team he is quite familiar with, the Oakland Raiders. After ranking top 10 offensively in points and yards last season, they are 23rd and 19th, respectively, this year. Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News reports that New York Jets offensive coordinator John Morton will be a target of Gruden's should he officially be tabbed by the Raiders.

Davis has always been intrigued about a second stint with Gruden but it seemed unlikely the franchise would be in for another change heading into this season.

Furthermore, the price of LG 8K OLED TV, though not officially announced, will sure not come cheap. If LG is to be asked, however, there is one more new territory to conquer: 8K.

Davis said in a statement that he appreciated Del Rio's effort in building the foundation for the future and thanked his family for contributing to the community. Del Rio had been the ninth coach in Oakland since Gruden left but the only one to get the team to the playoffs.

"I've got nothing to report".

Gruden, who has been out of coaching since being fired after the Bucs collapsed down the stretch of the 2008 season, has been the color analyst on "Monday Night Football" broadcasts since 2009. Del Rio said his first two years were great, while this year was a great disappointment. He went on to lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl championship in 2002, beating the Raiders in the title game. The Raiders won just 13 games in the three seasons before he arrived.
