Rushing duo carries Bulldogs over Oklahoma in epic Rose Bowl finish

The rushing duo of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel will put up points, but in the end, Oklahoma pulls out a classic victory to make the title game.

Georgia scored the first three touchdowns of the second half and Fromm's 4-yard scoring pass to Javon Wims gave the Bulldogs their first lead, 38-31, with 13:47 remaining.

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 23 of 35 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns, and he also caught a touchdown pass.

Despite giving up 31 points in the first half, more than Georgia had allowed in any of its first 13 games, the Butkus Award victor led a resilient defensive response in the Rose Bowl on Monday night and finished with a team-leading 11 tackles.

The National Championship game will be played on Monday Jan. 8 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. It was the first Rose Bowl to go into overtime in history.

The Sooners (12-1) were the second seed in the four-team field announced by the selection committee on Sunday, while the Bulldogs (12-1) were third.

Either way, both will, evidently, be on display when the Rose Bowl kicks off at 5:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.

'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Tops $1 Billion Worldwide
Star Wars is likely looking at some serious box office numbers for a few more years before that ceiling begins to level off. Star Wars: The Last Jedi has earned the top spot at the New Year's Eve weekend box office, earning $52.4 million.

Georgia defensive line vs. Oklahoma offensive line - Houston defensive lineman Ed Oliver shared his thoughts on the OU pass protection in early December, saying, "You can get at (Mayfield)". The victor goes to the title game January 8 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Coach Kirby Smart said the defense "stunk it up" in the first half, but there were no dramatic changes in the second.

Expect the Sooners to sell out on stopping the run, emulating the game-plan Auburn successfully enacted in Georgia's sole loss of the season. After claiming their 13th SEC crown, they're chasing their first national championship since 1980. The 2017 conference title also marked a successful debut for first-year head coach Lincoln Riley, who replaced Bob Stoops following a surprise retirement in June. "Have a ton of respect for him, the coach he is, the team that they have".

Oklahoma: The Sooners' defense has been an issue all season, but it did look for a while like it might make the decisive play. The Sooners have won eight consecutive games, including six straight by double digits.

Georgia: The Bulldogs came in with the sixth-best defense in the country, but Mayfield and the Sooners sliced it up in the first half, including a nifty reverse pass to the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback that made it 31-14 with 6 seconds left in the second quarter.

"He's just such a good athlete", Smart said.
