In other categories, Meghan Markle is most searched as an actor, in most searched people's list Matt Lauer is right at the top and Tom Petty and Chester Bennington were the most mourned people of 2017.

Aside from Bitcoin, Google's search trends tell a tale of political tumult and royal romance.

Google has released its annual list of top search trends, based on searches that had a high spike in traffic in 2017 as compared to 2016.

On a lighter note, the Super Bowl placed fourth, the solar eclipse came in seventh, and fidget spinners, the handheld toy with a cult-like following said to relieve stress, ranked No. 10.

In music, the most-searched song was Despacito, the hit track by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber. Sundar Pichai summarizes that in 2017 people "searched "How" more than ever before".

In terms of TV shows, the most searched for, in order, were Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why, Big Brother Brasil, Game of Thrones, and Iron Fist.

The former "Today" host also made a separate list where he was number one in regards to top 10 people searched on Google for the United States in 2017.

Apart from Baahubali 2, Indian users also entered Google searches for the Goods and Services Tax or GST, the CBSE results and the UP elections.
