More than 100 structures destroyed in Creek fire

The Skirball Fire has burned 475 acres east of the 405 Freeway near Mulholland Dr., taking with it four homes and damaging 12 others.

The Creek fire has burned more than 15,000 acres and is 40 percent contained. Nearly 1,700 firefighters and other personnel were deployed Thursday against the fire, which was 10 percent contained.

In Los Angeles, the Burning index rating, a daily reading of fire danger, is now at 296, according to fire officials, a record. The cause remains under investigation, according to Cal Fire.

"This fire is very unsafe and spreading rapidly, but we'll continue to attack it with all we've got", said State Governor Jerry Brown Brown in a press release. The blaze was accompanied by Santa Ana winds of 25 miles per hour.

The Getty Museum, which is also at risk, said it would remain closed on Thursday.

Three firefighters suffered what were considered to be minor injuries Tuesday.

More than 60 horses were at the ranch when the brush fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon, and almost half were killed. "And they were like, 'Get out, get out, get out, '" ranch owner Patricia Padilla said, referring to warnings by firefighters.

"We realize what an inconvenience this is and how traumatic this is to so many people, but we've watched fires in Northern California, we've seen through experience it's much better to err on the side of safety", Garcetti said at a Wednesday afternoon news briefing.

Strong Santa Ana winds are pushing multiple wildfires across the region, expanding across tens of thousands of acres and destroying hundreds of homes and structures.

Terrazas warned that the battle was likely to continue until at least Friday. The high speed, hot winds help the fires grow, according to CNN. It's scale runs from 0 to 165, the latter number indicating "extreme conditions".

The LAPD was placed on a citywide tactical alert, which allows commanders to keep officers beyond the end of their shifts, giving them maximum flexibility in deploying resources.

The eastbound and westbound entrance to the 405 Freeway from the 10 Freeway is closed as well. The eastbound 210 Freeway exits at Osborne Avenue, Wheatland Avenue, Sunland Boulevard, and La Tuna Canyon Road are also closed.

Roscomare Rd. will open from Mulholland Dr.to Sunset Blvd.

"We heard the fire engines before six o'clock this morning, and we said, 'Maybe we should start getting our stuff into the auto'".

The horse was escaping the fire in the Sylmar area of Los Angeles when it fell into the crevice.
