Apple accuses Qualcomm of acting as a 'common patent troll'

But on Wednesday, in a filing in U.S. District Court in San Diego, Apple revised its answer to Qualcomm's complaint with accusations of its own.

The filings were issued yesterday, shortly after Apple filed its own patent infringement lawsuit against Qualcomm.

"Five of these patents are also included in a new complaint filed in the International Trade Commission".

That said, this isn't the first time Qualcomm has raised an ITC complaint against Apple.

With this in mind it could take weeks before an investigation begins and months for action on the complaint.

NOAA: Atlantic hurricane season lived up to expectations
Overall, it was a rough year - one that exceeded forecasters' expectations, even though most called for an above-average season. The reported death toll from 2017's Atlantic storms now stands at 438 people, although the actual number could be higher.

Qualcomm in July asked the ITC to ban the import and sale of iPhone 7 and iPad models that allegedly infringe on a set of six patents that help mobile phones get better battery life.

The ever-growing and wide-ranging legal battle between the tech giant and Snapdragon chip maker Qualcomm is getting hotter, as the latter filed three new patent infringement lawsuits against the Cupertino giant for violating a total of 16 Qualcomm patents with its most recent iPhones, including the iPhone X. Qualcomm is asking the court for an injunction that would prevent Apple from selling the GSM version of the 2017 iPhone models because those do not feature the Qualcomm made modem chip inside. It is also claiming that the depth-based image enhancement technique for Portrait mode violates a Qualcomm patent.

Prior to this development, on November 29th, Apple sued Qualcomm over Snapdragon 800 and 820 processors. The '940 patent is to do with a power button that is multi-use for turning the phone on an off, silencing incoming calls, and activating a screen.

Generally whenever Apple announces a new iPhone it also announces a new System-on-a-Chip, and this year was no different. The iPhone X is Apple's most expensive smartphone ever, and is the most sought-faster product this holiday shopping season. That includes the latest iPhone 8 duo as well as the more in demand iPhone X now on offer from AT&T and T-Mobile. Carriers that sell the iPhone X with a modem provided by Qualcomm-available through Verizon, Sprint and sold as an unlocked device-would still be available. Apple has since ramped up production to improve the availability.
