Where Georgia is ranked in latest College Football Playoff poll

The Playoff was instituted in 2014 and has yet to feature two teams from the same conference in a single Playoff.

This week's College Football Playoff rankings really don't mean much for Georgia.

The final College Football Playoff rankings will be released on Sunday, Dec. 3.

That could be the deciding factor between Alabama and Ohio State if it comes down to those two schools. Auburn, even with two losses, would make it because they'd have two wins over the then-No. Oklahoma and Wisconsin round out the top four.

But a potential Alabama-Ohio State controversy looms. On one sideline is an undefeated Wisconsin that has scrapped their way up the rankings all season in spite of not having a signature marquee win to rely on.

Pac-12: No. 10 USC vs. The mission is clear for Clemson, Auburn, Oklahoma and Wisconsin, because none will drop out of the bracket after a victory on Saturday.

Oklahoma and Wisconsin control their own playoff destiny, but the same can't be said for their conference championship opponents. That's a no-doubt playoff resume.

No. 7 Miami is close to a lock with a win. But the Hurricanes play Clemson in the ACC title game on Saturday in Charlotte, N.C. Quarterback J.T. Barrett, center Billy Price and left tackle Jamarco Jones were first-team selections from both the coaches and media. The Buckeyes are a 6 1/2-point favorite over the Badgers in the Saturday contest.

The selection committee could be faced with a choice between Alabama (11-1) and Ohio State (10-2). So the stakes are still high in the Big 12 championship game. The 2017 Ohio State Buckeyes are a special group!

Amber Alert issued for 3-year-old from Onslow County
The sheriff's office has announced a reward of $2,500 (£1,800) for information leading to her safe return. According to the Amber Alert , Mariah Kay Woods has not been seen since approximately 11:30 p.m.

The SEC Championship and the ACC Championship games essentially are play-in games.

Let's take a look at the top 25. "Certainly not maybe in this game, but I think the team we played tonight is a very good football team - probably one of the best teams in the country".

Head-to-head results could complicate matters.

. UCF is the highest scoring team in the country, but Hocutt said overall strength of schedule and some defensive shortcomings were holding back UCF. Ohio State would own a conference championship, but Oklahoma decisively beat the Buckeyes in Columbus on September 9.

A two-loss Clemson will still be in the conversation.

. While an educated guess would have Alabama at No. 5, it conceivably could ride its name to No. 4, and things could get loud from there. The committee clearly likes Clemson. That could give the Tigers a trump card on Alabama, which just lost to Auburn. Auburn and Oklahoma are the only two teams with two wins over teams which will appear in the top 10 this week.

This feels like an especially notable moment, because it's the type of thing that would never happen in national championship conversation before the playoff. The fifth- and sixth-ranked teams are Alabama and Georgia, respectively.

"They know that and they don't get caught up in: 'What if?'" Southern California (10-2), 11. If TCU and Stanford lose, that could be recipe for getting Washington into the New Year's Six. Should the eighth-ranked Buckeyes win, they could provide their own compelling argument for a spot in the semifinals.

The national semifinals are set for January 1, at 4 p.m.at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., and at 7:45 p.m.at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. The defending national champions enter the ACC championship game with just one loss.

No. 2 Oklahoma (minus 7) vs.

The AAC victor is probably going to the Peach Bowl. Georgia would also make sense for Atlanta, although it would be three straight games in the city. But what about the rest of that New Year's Six bowl lineup?
