SC dismisses stay on global release of Padmavati, slams politicians

"All concerned persons holding responsible posts must be guided by rule of law and should not venture out to pass comment on film which has not been cleared by CBFC".

"When matter is pending for CBFC's consideration, how can persons holding public offices comment on whether CBFC should issue certificate or not?"

Dismissing the petition to stay the release of film overseas, the court said it is for the CBFC to take the call on the movie. The director Sanjay Leela Bhansali assured the Supreme Court that they will not release "Padmavati" in other countries till the time film is passed by CBFC.

The bench which also comprised Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud termed Sharma's plea as "misconceived", but did not impose cost on the lawyer, considering he has been a practising lawyer of the apex court, the report added.

Comedian Kapil Sharma, too, has his share of opinion regarding the fire and fury surrounding the most controversial film of the year "Padmavati".
