Gas prices hold steady in RI, down a nickel in MA

In Virginia, today's average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.30, 32 cents above what it was a year ago on this same day. That's three cents below the national average of $2.51.

AAA Northeast reported the average price per gallon fell 5 cents over the last week, to an average of $2.48. At that time, gas was averaging $2.06 per gallon.

The average price of gasoline in MA is 42 cents higher than it was at this time past year.

This is the second week in a row MI has seen a double-digit price drop, after an 11-cent decrease in the week preceding Thanksgiving.

The downward gas-price trend of the past two weeks has been thrown into park and prices are poised to head higher again in South Florida and elsewhere around the state.

That's according to AAA, which said in a statement Sunday that this the second week in a row Michigan's statewide average gas price has hit a double digit drop. Demand has remained stronger than expected for the early part of fall, so an increasing utilization rate will close the supply gap and help keep stocks in check as winter draws closer, says AAA.

The average for gas in metro Detroit also dropped about 10 cents, AAA said.

The price per barrel of crude oil is likely to continue gaining after EIA's latest report showed that crude inputs into refineries, for production of products like gasoline, grew.

Gas prices in the region are volatile - increasing, stabilizing and decreasing - throughout the Great Lakes and Central states.
