"Currently, the North Korean troops are conducting ordinary field exercises", a South Korean military official said in a briefing, according to Yonhap. "Dead stop. The flourishing ends, and the prison state of North Korea sadly begins".

Asked if he could see himself being friends with Kim, Trump said: "That might be a odd thing to happen but it's a possibility".

News about the North's manoeuvres has emerged at a time when three of the US Navy's aircraft carriers - USS Ronald Reagan, USS Theodore Roosevelt and USS Nimitz - are holding maritime exercises in the region. This marked the first time three ships of this size have sailed together in the region in a decade.

The last time three USA carrier strike groups exercised together in the Western Pacific was in 2007. "The problem is that South Korea is blindly following the USA which is intent on the scheme for a nuclear war".

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said that the four-day strike force exercise is "aimed at enhancing deterrence against North Korea's nuclear and missile threats".

Macron Says France Disagrees with Saudi Arabia on Iran
President Donald Trump decertified the agreement and imposed sanctions on the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. Iran has rejected a call by French President Emmanuel Macron for talks on Tehran's ballistic missiles.

As part of his continuing tour of Asia, Trump met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull Monday in Manila to discuss the situation in North Korea. The weapons you're acquiring are not making you safer, they are putting your regime in grave danger. In a stern speech delivered in South Korea's National Assembly on Tuesday, he said: "Do not underestimate us".

But Pyongyang doesn't seem interested in negotating.

Trump has been working to rally global pressure against North Korea's nuclear weapons program on a trip to Asia. Trump fired back hours later in a sarcastic tweet going after the dictator's weight and height.

In a response to North Korea calling Trump's speech in South Korea "reckless remarks by an old lunatic", Trump tweeted from Hanoi on Sunday morning: "Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me 'old, ' when I would NEVER call him 'short and fat?'"

Asked at news conference with Vietnam's president later Sunday if he could become friends with the North Korean leader, Trump replied it "might be a odd thing to happen but it's certainly a possibility".
