Why Netflix, Inc. (NFLX) Might Get Into A Pricing War With Disney

The entertainment giant announced in August that it would remove all of its films and television programmes from Netflix in preparation for launching its own on-demand platform.

Taking control of streaming is a "big strategic shift" for Disney, Iger explained. "But man now I REALLY hope you like The Last Jedi".

Disney already owns properties such as Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, Pixar and ESPN and is looking to expand.

"We also believe that our brands and our franchises really matter, as we've seen through Netflix and all our other platforms". Netflix ended the September quarter with 109.25 million streaming subscribers worldwide, including 52.77 million in the USA and 56.48 million in global markets.

In addition to "thousands of hours" of Disney movies and TV shows, there's also a live-action "Star Wars" series, a TV spinoff of "Monsters, Inc.", a "High School Musical" series and a Marvel show in the works.

If the traditional cable bundle were where Iger thought Disney could derive the most value for its content, it wouldn't be breaking out its content into separate offerings, a la its forthcoming ESPN bundle next year.

Louis CK accused of masturbating in front of female comedians
In 2003, writer, illustrator, and performer Abby Schachner spoke to C.K. on the phone, when she heard him begin to masturbate. The fifth woman , who wished to remain anonymous, worked at The Chris Rock Show where C.K. was a writer and producer.

Disney rose 2.9% to 105.64 in afternoon trading in the stock market today. "But it'll simply launch with less volume, and the price will reflect that", he said.

The latest financial report notes that Disney had an "unexpected" drop in profits and also confirms that ESPN is still losing subscribers by the millions, Reuters reported. Disney shares are up almost 7% so far this week, mostly on the reported Fox talks. A subscription costs £4.99 per month, and now, there are no plans to launch DisneyLife outside of Europe. Shares initially fell almost 4% in late trading Thursday, after the top and bottom line misses.

Netflix is by far the leader in the subscription internet video market.

"In shepherding this new trilogy, which is separate from the episodic Skywalker saga, Johnson will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored", DIsney said in a statement.

Disney's CEO confirmed in September 2017 that the service will have up to five original series, three or four exclusive Disney movies, and Disney's entire TV catalogue.

There are no details whatsoever regarding what either series will be about, but both are expected to debut before the end of 2019, soon after Disney launches their new service.
