Jahlil Okafor Wants a Buyout or Trade From the Sixers

A day after the Philadelphia 76ers declined his fifth-year option, Jahlil Okafor wants out from the team.

Okafor's trade value has taken a massive hit with him not being on the floor, and with the 76ers declining the team option on his contract, it's unlikely any team makes a competitive offer on him knowing that he can walk right out and leave in the summer.

After a promising rookie season in which he averaged 17 points and 7 rebounds per game, Okafor began to fall out of the rotation last season due to injuries and the emergence of Joel Embiid. So he asked that Philadelphia set him free by buying out his contract, a request the team has denied in hopes of getting something - anything - for the center. "I want the team to do great things, but at the same time I want to play". I'm just anxious about my career. The team looks great and I'm not a part fo that. "I had a talk with [team president] Bryan [Colangelo] yesterday, just because I want to play".

Okafor says that he didn't believe he'd still be with the Sixers when the deadline for his option came up.

In the present season, Okafor is again a favorite topic in National Basketball Association trade talks because he is no longer a part of 76ers head coach Brett Brown's rotation. According to Keith Smith of FanRag Sports, teams usually exercise all of their team options at once, but Okafor was not included in the group mentioned above. I know a buyout is one of the options where I get an opportunity to play elsewhere and to get on the court. But Okafor said the team has not engaged with him on that possibility.

Jahlil Okafor badly wants a buyout from the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Boston Celtics are a possible destination for him if he receives it. Okafor is sick of watching from afar and doesn't want to wait for next year to showcase himself, because he now will be a free agent at the season's close. Now I'm just in a position to where, how can I get on the court?
