If you aren't familiar with the character of Shazam, you may be too young to remember him in his heyday, or perhaps you know him better as Captain Marvel. The hero has the powers of Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury. The film is now set for release on April 5, 2019.
Shazam! Abracadabra! DC has just used its magic wand to snatch one of Marvel's actors - Thor: Ragnarok's Zachary Levi - to play a lead character in Shazam! DC later officially renamed the character "Shazam" when relaunching its comic book properties in 2011.
"Shazam!" is expected to begin production in February. It has not been revealed who will play Billy yet. The $15 million horror sequel has earned a big $303 million worldwide since opening in August.
Shazam first appeared in 1939, when he was known by the name Captain Marvel.
Earlier this year, it was announced that New Line and DC had chose to split Shazam into two separate films in order to give Dwayne Johnson's character, Black Adam, his own solo film following a meeting with DC's Geoff Johns.

Fan artist BossLogic, meanwhile, has shared a first look at what Levi as Shazam could look like. Creation producer Peter Safran is reuniting with Sandberg for the film, and is also producing DC's Aquaman for Warner Bros.
Shazam is now in pre-production and is expected to start shooting in February.
Zachary Levi will be stepping into the leading role of Shazam in the DC Extended Universe, in the hero's upcoming solo film of the same name. He recently confirmed that the target release date for the film is April 2019.
The film is being developed concurrently with a film focusing on Shazam villain Black Adam to star Dwayne Johnson.
