Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled its first plug-in hybrid vehicle, known as the Range Rover Sport P400e. Badged 400e, the new model basically lays out the path that virtually every vehicle maker will follow as global cities clamp down on compromised air quality: it uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and 85kW electric motor fed by a 13.1kWh high-voltage lithium ion battery to deliver a total power output of 404bhp.

JLR UK managing director Jeremy Hicks added: "The current Range Rover Sport has performed exceptionally well in the UK market since it was introduced in 2013 selling just shy of 50,000 vehicles to date".

The Range Rover Sport has been updated for 2018 with design changes, an improved interior, a plug-in Range Rover Sport PHEV and more powerful SVR.

Moving on to the Range Rover Sport SVR, it gets an increase in power to 567bhp by using the same state of tune for its 5.0 litre supercharged V8 as the F-Type SVR, which cuts its 0-62mph to 4.5 seconds and comes with more carbon fibre content than before too.

At steady speeds the vehicle uses Global Positioning System to work out when best to switch between fully electric and hybrid driving modes; if a steep hill is approaching, the engine will fire up to take up the slack, then cut out going downhill.

The new auto gets a 296bhp petrol engine teamed up with a 114bhp electric motor, for a combined power rating of 398bhp and 472lb ft torque, and will cost from £70,800-£84,400 depending on the trim level you go for.

Similarly, Washington also urged neighbouring countries to "reject unilateral measures and the use of force". Iraqi forces were also deployed on the border with Turkey as part of a joint exercise with Turkish troops.

A "Save" function will keep the battery topped up to a preset level, while "Predictive Energy Optimisation" uses data from the sat nav's GPS system to maximise economy over hills. Expect pricing for the Range Rover Sport P400e to be announced closer to its launch. The battery can be fully charged in 7 hours 30 minutes using the 10-amp home charging cable supplied as standard.

Land Rover achieved its best ever September, up 14%, to 6,407 cars, with strong sales across the Range Rover family.

Along with its eco-friendly credentials, the Range Rover Sport boasts an enhanced chassis design, along with a Touch Duo Pro infotainment system, dubbed "Blade" by its developers, which is described as "your twin high-definition touchscreen digital butler".

As for the internal-combustion-only Range Rover Sports, you'll be able to spot 2018 model-year examples by their new, slimmer LED headlamps bookending a matching narrower grille.

And if the hybrid isn't for you, a new 296bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine has joined the Range Rover Sport line-up.
