Trump Says He Will Visit Florida "Soon"


P resident Trump received a "comprehensive update" on Hurricane Irma as he huddled with Cabinet members and administration officials on Sunday, the White House said.

Regardless of the route that the eye of the storm takes, Irma "will bring life-threatening wind impacts to much of Florida", according to the NHC.

"This is a storm of enormous destructive power, and I ask everyone in the storm path to heed all instructions, get out of its way", the President said, echoing a tweet he posted Saturday evening. "Just get out of its way". "I think nearly every C abinet member called me once a day from the administration just making sure we have all the resources", Scott said on CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday.

At the top of the meeting, he urged Americans in the path of Hurricane Irma to leave the area.

"We're doing everything possible to help save lives and support those in need", he said.

A readout from the White House issued Saturday evening said Trump, Pence and the Cabinet were briefed on Hurricanes Irma and Jose.

The president also used the presidential retreat in western Maryland two weekends ago as a base from which to monitor Hurricane Harvey as it churned through southeast Texas and then Louisiana. He thanked FEMA and the Homeland Security Department, which oversees the agency, for their efforts. He said at Saturday's meeting that he would press for Congress to complete its work on a bill even sooner this year.
