Apparently, President Donald Trump thought all these stories were #FakeNews.
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump joined the rest of the country in experiencing the solar eclipse. Although the Trumps had access to eclipse glasses that allow the wearer to look directly at the sun without literally burning their eyeballs, Trump, uh, just fuckin' went for it.
According to the White House pool report, the President initially gesticulated to a crowd of administration staffers gathered below the balcony and pointed to the sky.
Needless to say, the Internet is having a field day with the bold move, which is strongly cautioned against by doctors because it could result in permanent eye damage or cause blindness by burning your retinas.
But at one point, Trump was seen looking directly up at the sun without wearing his protective glasses.
Nigerians in London stage protest outside President Buhari's residence
His arrival was confirmed by his Special assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmad shortly after Eagle One landed at the airport. Upon his return, president Buhari stated the possibility of returning to London for further treatment.
Unfortunately, the President of the United States was unable to follow these clear guidelines for enjoying the great conjunction of the spheres.
But videos showed that Trump wasn't as cavalier as the still images made it seem: He looked up for a brief moment with his naked eyes beforehand in what appeared to be a joking manner before putting on his glasses.
Solar glasses are a must for anyone who wants to view the eclipse.
In Washington, a total eclipse wasn't even visible - at peak viewing, at about 2:43 p.m., the sun was about 81 percent eclipsed.
