'Jab Harry Met Sejal' is a darkly amusing romance

Jab Harry Met Sejal is absolutely banal with some hummable tunes.

Imtiaz Ali's romantic directorial Jab Harry Met Sejal is an inconsistent film. Fans of SRK and Anushka are very excited to watch the film. This is how Shah Rukh's company Red Chillies planned the release. Harry had been assigned to her group - consisting of her family and friends - as they travelled across Europe for a month, when her boyfriend Rupen proposed marriage to her, and slipped that ring on her finger.

Shah Rukh and Anushka will be seen helping Chakor (Meera Deosthale) and Sooraj understand how love is a precious feeling and they should not let go of each other.

Both Shah Rukh and Imtiaz need the film to work at the box office as they have not tasted success for some time now. Earlier, a trade expert Sumit Kadel predicted, "Jab Harry Met Sejal may surpass Raees and Dilwale given the condition that the content has been liked by the audience". According to the report, the tickets have been priced at Rs. 1,500 at the PVR Icon in Versova but looks like even that won't stop the fans from reaching theatres.

The case appears to set a legal precedent, as there is no MA law that criminalises telling a person to commit suicide. Roy's sister, Camden Roy spoke in court Thursday, fighting back tears.

While the first half of the film is good enough to hold you onto the screens, the second half falls prey to the formulaic genre of romantic comedy with melo-drama and mushy romantic sequences overpowering the comic sequences.

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi also wished Shahrukh and his team for the success of their film. The film was released in all major cities in the United States, and by the end of this weekend, it is expected to collect $12 million. The film is over-laden with songs (bearable ones no doubt) and has little in terms of story, to interest. This time around, Aamir Khan extended his best wishes for Shah Rukh Khan for his forthcoming film that releases tomorrow. Until Sejal (Anushka Sharma) walks into his life looking out for her lost engagement ring on a tour to Amsterdam.

As Sejal, Sharma is a revelation, displaying a comic timing and penchant for deadpan dialogue delivery we haven't seen her do before.

It is indeed a matter of pride for Manglmurti Films to have taken up the responsibility of distributing one of the biggest films of the year. Jab Hary Met Sejal overseas earnings mere from the selling of distribution rights comes to 40 crore rupees. Sejal, who couldn't care less to begin with, soon begins to enjoy the thought of being given more a passing excursion into unknown lands by her rude tourist guide.
