Trump replaces chief of staff Priebus with general Kelly

Priebus' hold on the White House job has always been in question, more so this week after Trump's new communications director badmouthed him to a reporter for the New Yorker. Scaramucci was appointed the new White House Communication Director on July 21. Those who have departed include former deputy chief of staff Katie Walsh, former communications chief Mike Dubke, press secretary Sean Spicer and press aide Michael Short.

Priebus also added that "bringing in a fresh face" is a good thing.

Kelly is entering the White House amid a major staff shakeup, which started last week with the appointment of Anthony Scaramucci to the communications director position.

Federal Bureau of Information director who had been leading an investigation into the Trump 2016 presidential campaign's possible collusion with Russian Federation to influence the election outcome, was sacked by Trump in May. He previously served as the former Commander of US Southern Command and was the commanding general of the Multi- National Force-West in Iraq from February 2008 to February 2009.

Just hours earlier, the president had heaped praise on Kelly at an event in Long Island talking about the battle against the violent MS-13 gang.

He was hired with the goal of bringing more discipline to the White House, a senior White House official said.

Kelly, 67, is a retired four star general of the Marine Corps and was tapped to lead the Department of Homeland Security on January 20. He had been leading DHS' recent surge in efforts to crackdown on illegal immigration - a core campaign promise by Trump.

US President Donald Trump has taken a gamble in installing the politically inexperienced John Kelly as his chief of staff.

"The entire administration loves him [Kelly] and no one is comparable", she said. "He will begin on Monday morning and a cabinet meeting will follow his swearing in", Sanders said.

In a third tweet, the President thanked Priebus for his service: "I would like to thank Reince Priebus for his service and dedication to his country".

"The president has the right to hit the reset button and I support him", Preibus told CNN.

The general was more doubtful about Kelly's ability to move the Republican Congress in a positive direction given that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and President Trump have both been unable to do so.

Donald Trump is proving to be a president pathologically incapable of allowing his team to work for him, writes Paul McGeough.

In an interview with CNN, Priebus said, "This is not like a situation where there's a lot of ill will feelings".

In a statement released shortly before the interview, Preibus thanked the president for giving him the opportunity.

"I'm going to honor the President every day", he said, repeatedly adding, "I'm not going to get into this personal stuff".

On Thursday Scaramucci told a New Yorker reporter: "Reince is a fucking paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac".

Congressman Peter King who accompanied Trump aboard Air Force One to NY and back, told reporters that during the flight, he saw no indication of Priebus' exit. "We didn't even know it".
