Guillermo Del Toro's giant robots vs. giant monsters movie Pacific Rim was not the blockbuster the fans wanted it to be, but strong overseas business and a steady stream of cult-like appreciation has earned the franchise a second shot at the box office, this time under the direction of Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil).

Fans might recognize the voice of Ellen McLain, who uses the same voice of GLaDOS (from the Portal video game series) for the A.I. on board the Jaegers from the first Pacific Rim. Promising that a "new generation of Jaeger Pilots will stand tall for all humanity", it the film will star John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Wesley Wong, Lily Ji, Lan Yingying, Qian Yongchen, Zhang Jin, Cailee Spaeny and Chen Zitong. Let's hope Pacific Rim: Uprising lives up to these big budget sci-fi gold standards, and that it finds a bigger audience than Starship Troopers or the original Pacific Rim did. While Pacific Rim featured a Jaeger program on its last legs - and, as such, numerous robots were older machines - Uprising seems to be including state-of-the-art technology in its Jaegers. John Boyega is portraying Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba's character in the first film, Stacker Pentecost. Obviously, that means the sequel's going to need some new ones, and now we finally have a good look at the robots joining the Gipsy Avenger in Uprising-and my god are the wonderful.

Central California fire threatens 300 homes
Eight structures have been destroyed and one has been damaged, but no details are available on whether they are homes or sheds. Firefighters use bulldozers to bury flames from the Detwiler fire near the town of Mariposa, California on July 18, 2017.

We don't know a lot about the plot of Pacific Rim: Uprising, but it seems safe to say that the new mechs - along with the various array of swords, canons, and spikes that they're wielding - will see plenty of action when the sequel arrives in theaters on February 23rd, 2018.
