After jury deadlocks, Bill Cosby faces 2nd sex assault trial

Several news operations are challenging a protective order that shields the jurors' identities. The Constand case is the only one that fell within the statutes of limitations, and Philadelphia District Attorney Kevin Steele was voracious in fighting to take down Cosby.

During their deliberations, jurors sent a string of questions to the judge, asking to rehear the testimonies of five trial witnesses and Cosby's previous deposition testimony.

Prosecutors said they intend to retry the case.

But it was Cosby's reputation as a public moralist who urged young people to pull up their saggy trousers and start acting responsibly that prompted a federal judge to unseal portions of an explosive deposition he gave more than a decade ago as part of Constand's civil lawsuit against him. Typically, prosecutors have that long to decide whether to retry someone in Pennsylvania. He said he had hoped to learn more about the deliberations on Saturday, when all of the jurors, including the alternates, left Norristown together for the ride back to western Pennsylvania.

Cosby, 79, has called the sexual encounter consensual.

It's understandable they would think that; for most of America's history, women's allegations of sexual assault were not to be believed - even when men stated something as true that was clearly a lie.

A major hurdle has been overcome in the acquisition of Essar Oil by Rosneft and its partners. The court will continue hearing the case on July 12, Russian news agencies reported.

In addition to bracing himself for a new criminal trial, Cosby is also battling civil cases, accusing him of sexual battery or defamation. Judge Steven O'Neill instructed them to keep working toward a unanimous decision.

During their deliberations, the jury asked to review the testimony of alleged victim Andrea Constand, particularly her testimony about the 2004 night the alleged assault took place, which produced over 300 pages of transcripts. "The jurors, they used their power to speak", the spokesman said.

"This Court will schedule jury selection for the retrial in the upcoming weeks". The comic icon is accused of allegedly sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his Cheltenham Township home in 2004 with the use of blue pills and wine.

"If the press saturates the nationwide media with stories about deliberations, including jurors' opinions about the evidence, it may make parties' (prosecution and defense) ability to select a fair and impartial jury more hard", said Steele in his memorandum of law. "I felt like we could have brought justice".

He advised jurors when the trial ended Saturday that they didn't need to discuss the case. "She's entitled to a verdict in this case and the citizens of Montgomery County, where this crime occurred, are entitled to a verdict in this case and we will push forward to try to get that done". O'Neill, acting on a defense motion, subsequently declared a mistrial. "'Probably' does not win criminal trials". Following a series of complaints against him, he had to face three felony charges of second-degree aggravated indecent assault.
